Jackson Memorial Hospital is an accredited, nonprofit, tertiary care hospital and the major teaching facility for the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine. Governed by the Public Health Trust on behalf of the Miami-Dade Board of County commissioners, Jackson is dedicated to providing a single, high standard of quality care for the residents of Miami-Dade County.
The University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine was founded in 1952 as the first medical school in Florida. As the only academic medical center in South Florida, it is acclaimed both nationally and internationally for its research, patient care, education, and community service. It has over 200 students in each of its 4-year classes, along with training opportunities in multiple tracks such as the MD/MPH track and the MD/PhD track. The Miller School of Medicine campus consists of 35 acres within the 80-acre complex of the Miami Health District which includes over 2 million square feet of research space and serves more than 5 million people from the U.S., South America, and the Caribbean.
